Band Of Brothers on Bluray for £25.

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind and Dr. Strangelove on Bluray in a 2 for £15 deal.

Leon and Source Code on Bluray in a 2 for £15 deal.

And The Proposal as a cheeky wee extra DVD for £2.99.

Thanks HMV, thank you very much. Laugh

I received Undercover Brother on DVD today – only had it on VHS before. I like it better than its IMDb rating – Denise Richards as the white man's secret weapon is great! :-)

Also splurged today and ordered eleven Blu-rays for a good price (about £6 each, on average – with free shipping): The Fifth Element, Demolition Man, Hellboy II (which I like better than the first), House of Flying Daggers, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Sky High, Chocolate, The Informer, The Last Action Hero, Wall Street – Money Never Sleeps aaaand Ultraviolet (great-looking Milla Jovovich nonsense)! :-D

That's a good selection.

Then you go and add the great-looking Milla Jovovich nonsese, haha.

Nice haul though. Wink

The above batch arrived today – pure bliss! I've only had a Blu-ray player for three weeks, and I already have 68 Blu-ray titles! :-D

I love that my wife is as weak and impulsive as I am.

She picked up 3 Blurays today (which immediately became OUR Blurays, haha).

Tyrannosaur, which I am dying to see.

Crazy, Stupid, Love. Which I really enjoyed.

And Abduction – nothing's perfect eh.

Celebrating my first salary wage.

I popped into HMV and got The Hurt Locker, and The Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western trilogy on Bluray and Island Of Death and The Exorcism Of Emily Rose on DVD for a total of £50.

A good day. Laugh

:-)

Last night I was at a local auction, and bagged some ten DVDs for almost nothing, incl. a handful of horror movies (that I need to see before deciding if I even wanna keep them), a strange TV superhero thing called Prey of the Jaguar, Mads Mikkelsen's Valhalla Rising and a couple of other Danish movies.

A local auction?

That sounds like fun. I've never been to an auction but if they had piles of DVDs now and again then I would definitely pop along. Wink

Our local sci-fi/fantasy/horror/superhero fandom organization holds an auction about twice a year, where we basically donate stuff (books, movies, comics, collectibles) we don't want anymore, and then other people buy it cheaply, and the organization gets some much needed funds! Kinda like a charity ball, very small-scale! :-)

Well, you already saw the first pic this morning so I shall just say that I had to take another pic and place it on Facebook when I got home from work. Most excellent!!

Just ordered the BTTF trilogy on Blu-ray! And also The Day After Tomorrow, which I quite like.

The BTTF trilogy is an essential Bluray purchase IMO so well done on that one. I also enjoy The Day After Tomorrow, it's great blockbuster entertainment that delivers what it says it will deliver.

Kathryn came home today and had picked up Real Steel for me on Bluray. I have yet to watch it but I think it looks like something I will end up really enjoying, despite the schmaltz/predictability factor.

I think Real Steel is a pretty darn good boy's adventure romp, which works for adults, too. I thought they botched the exact structure of the final scenes, but it's still a solid 7 out of 10 for me.

Anyway, I went to the movie store yesterday and exited with this lot:

Blu-ray: Henry V (Olivier's), Machete and Predator!

DVD: A Beautiful Mind, I Am Love, Kiki's Delivery Service and Princess Mononoke! (Got tired of waiting for the Blu-ray of the latter.)

I am really looking forward to it, Tue. I think it's one that we'll agree on – Hugh Jackman is usually a good lad. And congrats on another good haul though I feel it is my duty to warn you that Predator has often been cited as the best example of how not to create a Bluray. Apparently, the colouring and image were negatively affected during the upgrade and many fans were displeased. That movie is the main reason that I only tend to buy either brand new films on Bluray or classics reissued by companies that I know and trust. You may have a better disc, I'm just giving you a heads up that, sadly, Blu does not always equal better/best.

I know about the Predator debacle – but there are two versions of it, the earlier being the most well-regarded, and the one I have acquired. :-)

Good stuff. I have had a friend or two reacting in surprise when I mentioned that example and it's a shame that every Blu can't reach the full potential.

Yeah, apparently there are great differences in quality from Blu-ray to Blu-ray. Sometimes because of difficult source material, and sometimes because the people behind the Blu-ray release didn't do their homework to Blu-ray standards. But when you read about the technical details, a lot of the comments and complaints get bogged down in exactly that: details, which only really matter to technical connoiseurs, of which I am not one. There are many little things I never notice; if I had gotten the other version of Predator, for instance, I doubt it would have particularly mattered to me. On the other hand, there are things I do notice, and if a Blu-ray release is obviously not much of an improvement on the DVD version, one would feel a bit ripped off – or more than a bit. That hasn't happened to me yet, but then again, I haven't watched all my Blu-rays yet…
